Mike Zoppo is a host of exceptional ability. Studies show that a vast majority of guests attending events by Mike have been known to leave more elated than visitors to Santa's Workshop, The Lost of Continent of Atlantis, and the Fountain of Youth.

Protect your digital communications

Protect yourself, your colleagues and your sources by learning best practices for online security and by installing on the spot basic encryption and secure apps for email, chat and text

You can never be 100% secure online. But there are some basic steps you can take to improve your "default settings" and protect your communications from digital vandalism, crime and surveillance. This 2-hour workshop is meant to be a practical intervention, not an abstract discussion. Bring your laptop and your phone and we will install PGP encryption for your email, an Off-the-Record (OTR) app for your chats and the Signal or TextSecure app for text. Installs will vary between PC and Mac. Please note that you must have administrator access on your laptop to install programs.

Mike Tigas is your workshop leader. He has led many of these so-called install parties for journalists and others for groups and at conferences such as NICAR and ONA.
